How it works

  • Lessons — start from zero: plain syllables first, then sắc, huyền, hỏi, ngã and nặng, the vowel shapes (â, ă, ê, ô, ơ, ư) and the letter đ.
  • Adaptive practice — the trainer watches which tones you miss and builds practice rounds around them.
  • Speed test — 15, 30 or 60 seconds of real Vietnamese sentences, scored in words per minute (WPM).

New to Telex?

Telex is the most popular way to type Vietnamese: you type plain letters plus a few extra keys for the tones — S for sắc, F for huyền, R for hỏi, X for ngã, J for nặng. Double a vowel for â, ê, ô, and add W for ă, ơ, ư. Type in the trainer above and your keystrokes turn into proper Vietnamese as you go.
